Privacy Policy
Last updated 14 October 2026. Controller: WhatIsMyError.
What we collect
- Account data: email, name and a hashed password if you create an account.
- Search queries: the text you type in the search box, used to find missing topics. Not linked to your account.
- Error analysis: only the detected signals (codes, platforms) and the matched error. We do not store the text you paste.
- Rate limiting & votes: a one-way hash of your IP address.
- Security & account activity log: sign-ins, failed sign-ins, password/API-key changes and payments, with an anonymised IP address (last part removed) and browser name, kept for 180 days. You can see your own entries on your account page.
- Payments: handled by Razorpay. We store the plan, amount, date and Razorpay order/payment IDs — never your card, UPI or bank details.
- Weekly digest (optional): your email address, the date you confirmed, and which issue you last received. We email you only after you click the confirmation link; every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops all sending.
- Saved errors and analysis history (signed-in users): the errors you save, and — unless you switch it off in your account — the text you analyze (newest 200). Only you can see it, and you can delete it any time.
- API keys (Developer plan): a one-way hash of each key, its name, the last time it was used and daily call counts.
- Google sign-in (optional): your Google account email, name and Google user ID.
Site statistics
We count page views with our own cookieless statistics: an anonymous visitor ID that changes every day (derived from your IP address and browser, never stored in readable form), the page, the referring website, and your device/browser type. Technical errors are logged with the page URL to help us fix problems.
Analytics
We may use Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager to understand which pages are useful. Analytics cookies are only set after you accept them in the cookie banner (Google Consent Mode).
Security check (captcha)
Our captcha is built in — no third-party captcha service or tracking is involved.
AI analysis
If you choose Deep AI analysis, the text you paste is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the analysis. Remove secrets before pasting.
Advertising & cookies
Free pages may show Google AdSense ads. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings. We use one essential session cookie for log-in and form security. A full list of cookies and browser storage is in our Cookie Policy.
Who we share data with
We do not sell personal data. It is processed only by providers that run the service: our web host, Razorpay (payments), Google (analytics, ads and optional sign-in, only as described above), Cloudflare (code-highlighting files) and, if you use Deep AI analysis, Anthropic. These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
How long we keep data
Account data is kept while your account exists. Activity logs are kept for 180 days. Payment records (plan, amount, date, Razorpay IDs) are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Search queries and anonymous statistics are kept in aggregate.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, withdraw consent (for cookies, use the banner or clear site data), or raise a complaint. Write to letstalk@whatismyerror.com or use the contact form; we reply within 30 days. Deleting an account removes your profile and API keys; records we must keep by law (payments) stay, without further use.
Security
Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, the site is served over HTTPS, and admin access is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
The service is meant for developers and IT users and is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal data, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes
We update this policy when our practices change; the date at the top shows the latest revision.
