# MissingSubscriptionRegistration: The subscription is not registered to use namespace 'Microsoft.X'

**Code:** `MissingSubscriptionRegistration` · **Category:** Azure · **Seen on:** Azure

The resource provider (Microsoft.Web, Microsoft.ContainerService, …) isn’t registered for the subscription.

## Meaning

New subscriptions only have common providers registered. Deployments by principals without permission to register providers fail on the first use of a new service.

## Common causes

- Resource provider never registered in this subscription
- Service principal lacks permission to register providers

## Quick fix

1. Register the provider: az provider register --namespace Microsoft.X
2. Wait until registrationState is Registered
3. Have an Owner/Contributor register it once

## Detailed fix by platform

### Azure CLI

1.

```bash
az provider register --namespace Microsoft.ContainerService
az provider show -n Microsoft.ContainerService --query registrationState
```

## How to diagnose

1. **State** — Registered?
2. **Permissions** — Can the identity register providers?
