# InsufficientInstanceCapacity: We currently do not have sufficient capacity in the Availability Zone you requested

**Code:** `InsufficientInstanceCapacity` · **Category:** AWS · **Seen on:** AWS

AWS has no free capacity for that instance type in that Availability Zone right now.

## Meaning

Popular or large types (GPU, new generations) can run out in a specific AZ. It’s temporary and not related to your account limits. Retrying later, another AZ, or another type usually works.

## Common causes

- Instance type in short supply in that AZ
- Placement group/tenancy constraints
- Large simultaneous launch

## Quick fix

1. Launch in another AZ (subnet)
2. Try a similar instance type
3. Use capacity reservations for critical workloads

## Detailed fix by platform

### AWS CLI

1. `aws ec2 describe-instance-type-offerings --location-type availability-zone --filters Name=instance-type,Values=g5.xlarge --region us-east-1`

## How to diagnose

1. **AZ** — Which zone?
2. **Type** — Alternatives available?
3. **Placement** — Cluster placement group?
